Runtastic Receiver and Heart Rate Monitor: Troubleshooting Runtastic Receiver and Heart Rate Monitor
General:
Plug the receiver into the headphone jack on your smartphone. Check the correct positioning of the receiver. You can also connect your smartphone's headphones to the receiver (the receiver features a headphone jack at the top).
1. Should there be no heart rate reading, it might be that the contacts for the receiver in your smartphone are poled different. In this case open the case of the receiver (as described in point ''Changing the battery for the receiver'') and change the position of the switch in the case. Reattach the cover of the receiver and repeat the activation process of the heart rate measurement as described in point "Activating heart rate measurement'' below.
2. The function of the microphone and the speaker will be disabled when the receiver is plugged in the phone, it is however possible to use a headset.
3. The remote control on iPhone headphones does not work when the receiver is plugged into the phone
4. The receiver will be turned on and consume battery when it is plugged in the phone even if the Runtastic app is not activated. To conserve battery life it is best to take out the receiver when it is not in use.
5. The battery life of the receiver is around 2.5 years if it is used 1 hour per day. Please change the battery when it is out of battery and as the receiver cannot receive signal from the chest strap without power.
Please check if you have plugged the receiver completely into the jack of the phone. Sometimes protection covers can cause problems.
Activating heart rate measurement
To activate the heart rate measurement function, open the Runtastic app on your smartphone.
iPhone: Go to "Settings" and under connection select ''Heart Rate''. Select the option "Runtastic Receiver with Chest Strap'' and toggle ''Enable Runtastic Receiver'' to ''ON'' and then press the button ''Re-Pair''.
Android: Go to "Settings" and select "Heart Rate Settings". Select the option "Runtastic Receiver and heart rate monitor", it will then begin connecting.
BlackBerry: Go to "Settings" and select "Heart Rate Settings". Select the option "Heart Rate Monitoring" and then the setting "enabled", followed by the option "Heart Rate Sensor" and the setting "runtastic".
Windows Phone: Go to "Settings" and select "Heart Rate Settings". Set the option "Runtastic Receiver (5.3 kHz)" to ON.
Attaching the chest strap
Connect the elasticated strap to the sensor. Adjust the strap so that the sensor rests firmly against your chest below your pectoral muscles.
To ensure good contact with your skin you should moisten the contacts of the sensor or apply an ECG gel (available from health stores).
Note for iPhone users:
If you are experiencing problems when updating to iOS 7 then please do the following:
Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone > Activate Runtastic
Switching between coded and uncoded transmission
16 coded and one uncoded channel can be selected. Pressing the button on the back of the chest strap switches between the coded channels. If you press and hold the button for 5 seconds, it will automatically switch to the uncoded channel. Pressing the button again will switch between to the encoded channels.
iPhone: Go to "Settings" and select ''Heart Rate Settings'', and on the bottom of the screen you can see on which channel the chest strap is sending. Should you wish to change the channel, press the button on the chest strap as described above to switch to the next coded channel. Press the button ''Re-Pair'' and your smartphone will establish a connection to the chest strap again.
Android: Go to "Settings" and select "Heart Rate Settings", under "Sensor channel" you can see on which channel the chest strap is sending. If it is using a coded channel, it shows a digit. If it uses the uncoded channel, it reads ''uncoded''. Should you wish to change the channel, you should disconnect the chest strap from the receiver by switching to ''No pulse connection''. Now change the channel, as described above, by pressing the button on the back of the chest strap. Go back to "Receiver + Chest strap (5.3 kHz)" again, your smartphone will establish a connection to the chest strap again on the new channel.
BlackBerry: Go to "Settings" and select "Heart Rate Settings", under "Sensor channel" you can see on which channel the chest strap is sending. If it is using a coded channel, it shows a digit. If it is using the uncoded channel, it reads ''uncoded''. Should you wish to change the channel then press the button on the chest strap, as described above, to switch to the next encoded channel. Select "Connect Sensor" again and your smartphone will establish a connection to the chest strap.

If it is using the uncoded channel, it will say ''uncoded''. Runtastic Receiver and Heart Rate Monitor: Using A Bluetooth Headset & Runtastic Receiver And Heart Rate Monitor
Using a Bluetooth headset and the Runtastic Receiver and Heart Rate Monitor at the same time isn't possible due to technical reasons.
As soon as the Receiver is plugged in, the smartphone sends audio signals only via the headphone jack.

Speed & Cadence Sensor: Montage & Assembly
If you have already attached the speed- and cadence-sensor to your bike, please take a minute to review the distance between the magnet and the sensor. It is important that the distance is not larger than 4-5mm. In order to archive the optimal position, you might want to use a hex-wrench tool as seen in the image below:
If you have not yet attached the speed- and cadence-sensor to your bike, please follow the steps below:
For the activation of the speed- and cadence-sensor, take ether the spoke- or pedal-magnet in your hand and move it over the suitable marking on the speed- and cadence-sensor. Be aware of the the maximal distance between the magnet and the sensor, which is 4-5mm.
Once the activation was successful, note that the color of the speed and pedal frequency symbol on the display of your smart phone will change from orange to green.
Correct montage of the speed- and cadence-sensor:
Attaching the speed- and cadence-sensor (speed- and pedal frequency-sensor)
Before connecting the sensors with your app, please follow the instructions below:
Active Bluetooth within the settings of your Iphone. ( You will not have to connect the sensors within this settings)
Now, please connect the sensors within the settings of the app.
The Bluetooth-Symbol, in the right upper corner, should start to blink while pairing. If this is not the cause, please restart Bluetooth and the Iphone. -
